The world of cardiovascular research has lost a great collaborator, innovator, teacher and friend with the passing of Dr. Peter Sleight, age 91, on October 7th, 2020.

Dr. Sleight was Dr. Yusuf’s mentor during his time at Oxford University, and for the many years following this, he collaborated with several projects at PHRI. He was the co-chair of the HOPE and ONTARGET studies and the chair of the DSMB for ORIGIN, OASIS-5 and RE-LY, among others. He was the 2009 Arnold L. Johnson Lectureship in Cardiology, the flagship of PHRI’s lectureships.

“Dr. Sleight will be remembered by many senior staff and researchers at PHRI for his wisdom, support and warmth,” says Dr. Yusuf, who co-authored a obituary in The Lancet with colleagues Sir Richard Peto and Sir Rory Collins, shown in their earlier photo).
