Darryl Leong

Several PHRI researchers will present at European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2023 in Amsterdam/online next month, including an Advance in Science and two Late-Breaking Science (LBS) sessions.

At the LBS session on August 28, PHRI Scientist Darry Leong will present findings on frailty and the risk of death or heart failure hospitalization in 3429 patients with HF in 27 high-, middle- and low-income countries from the G-CHF registry.

That same day, in Advance in Science, Leong will share observations from 3000 men in five countries undergoing androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer, measures of adiposity and strength, and adverse cardiovascular outcomes in the RADICAL PC-1 study.

Professor G. Karthikeyan, India

G. Karthikeyan

Leong is on the steering committee of the Global Cardiovascular Risk Consortium (GCVRC), a group that will present their findings on cardiovascular risk factors from  pooled data of more than 1.5 million participants from 100 cohort studies globally, at a LBS session.

On August 25, PHRI Senior International Fellow Ganesan Karthikeyan will present on mortality from rheumatic heart disease in low- and middle-income countries – primary results of the INVICTUS research program – in a session on registries on valvular heart disease.

PHRI Scientist David Conen will present in a Hot Line session on August 25 on COP-AF: colchicine for the prevention of perioperative atrial fibrillation after major thoracic surgery

PHRI Senior Scientist Shamir Mehta will present on lessons learned from the COMPLETE trial and rationale for COMPLETE-2 within the session: How to deal with non-culprit lesions in acute coronary syndromes, on August 26. (The large, multinational RCT, COMPLETE-2, recently recruited its first patient.)

On August 27, PHRI Associate Scientist Sandra Carroll will present on device-specific quality of life in subcutaneous versus transvenous implantable cardioverter defibrillator implantations: results from the ATLAS S-ICD multi-centre randomized controlled trial.

David Conen

PHRI Senior Scientist PJ Devereaux will present on applications of cardiac biomarkers in non-cardiac surgery in a satellite symposium on August 26.

PHRI Scientist Harriette Van Spall will present twice on August 25 within the session, “Artificial intelligence for heart failure: from screening to treatment” including her role in The Great Debate: will AI replace cardiologists? As well, she is presenting on ‘Show me the money: Reimbursement” in the “Digital solutions to the healthcare crisis” session on August 27.

PHRI Scientist Flavia Borges will present a moderated e-poster on myocardial injury in hip fractures: a HIP ATTACK-1 randomized trial sub-study.

Eva Lonn

PHRI Senior Scientist Eva Lonn will give a State-of-the-Art Lecture on Heart Failure Epidemiology on August 25.

PHRI Investigator William McIntyre will present on postoperative atrial fibrillation outcome data from the VISION Cardiac Surgery study as part of a late-breaking registry session on August 27.
