Official Title

COlchicine For the Prevention Of Perioperative Atrial Fibrillation In Patients Undergoing Thoracic Surgery (COP-AF)

Status

Ongoing

Overview

Colchicine, an anti-inflammatory agent, has been effective in preventing perioperative AF and post-pericardiotomy syndrome in the cardiac surgery setting. After successful completion of a pilot study, we are undertaking a large randomized controlled trial to determine the efficacy of colchicine for the prevention of new onset AF in patients undergoing thoracic surgery.

Study Design

Multi-centre, blinded, randomized controlled trial

Primary Endpoint

To determine whether the administration of colchicine compared with placebo reduces the occurrence of clinically important perioperative AF within 14 days of randomization.
