Up to 20% of patients undergoing major thoracic surgery develop perioperative atrial fibrillation (POAF), making it one of the most common serious complications in this patient population.

The objective of the COP-AF study is to determine whether the administration of colchicine reduces the occurrence of POAF and other inflammatory complications within 14 days after major thoracic surgery.
