The objective of the SHARE study was to establish whether health variations between populations can be explained by differences in disease risk factors and subclinical atherosclerosis.

The differences between four ethnic groups in Canada (Caucasians, Chinese, South East Asians, and Aboriginals) were studied.

Primary endpoints:

  • Sub-clinical atherosclerosis (carotid IMT)
  • Conventional cardiovascular disease risk factors such as smoking, hypertension, diabetes, and raised cholesterol)
  • Novel cardiovascular disease risk factors, such as markers of a prothrombotic state.
