PHRI is pleased to announce the ninth annual Janice Pogue Lectureship in Biostatistics, featuring a lecture by Dr. David B. Allison titled “Trustworthiness in Modern Health Science: Lessons from Nutrition and Obesity as an Illustration and a Path Forward.”
The event will be held Nov. 11, 2026, at the David Braley Research Institute Auditorium, 20 Copeland Avenue, Hamilton, Ont. Allison is a professor of pediatrics and endowed chair through Texas Children’s Hospital, chief of nutrition and director of the USDA-ARS Children’s Nutrition Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine.
Allison was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2012 and serves as co-chair of the National Academy of Sciences’ Strategic Council for Research Excellence, Integrity, and Trust. He has been continuously funded by the NIH as a principal investigator for more than 30 years and has authored or co-authored more than 700 scientific publications. Among his many recognitions, he received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring in 2006, the Harry V. Roberts Statistical Advocate of the Year Award from the American Statistical Association in 2018, and the Bodil M. Schmidt-Nielsen Distinguished Mentor and Scientist Award from the American Physiological Society in 2023. In 2025, he received the Irving S. Wright Award of Distinction from the American Federation for Aging Research and began a term as president-elect of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society. A fellow of Sigma Xi and member of the International Statistical Institute, he was also inducted into the Academy for Health and Lifespan Research in 2023. He is known for his commitment to rigour in research and the honest communication of scientific findings.
The lectureship brings together biostatisticians, methodologists and researchers each year to explore current and emerging topics and challenges in biostatistics and clinical trials. It was established to honour the legacy of Janice Pogue, a distinguished biostatistician who founded PHRI’s Statistics Department. Each year, the lectureship welcomes an internationally recognized leader in biostatistics to share their work and spark meaningful conversations in clinical research methodology.
