Richard Whitlock

PHRI Scientist Richard Whitlock has been named the Canada Research Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery, a new Tier 2 Chair, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), as part of the Spring 2020 recipient of Canada Research Chairs.

He is one of 182 chairholders, funded with a total of $130,600,000 – with McMaster University receiving $3,900,000 – from various federal agencies as well as the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

Richard’s reaction to the outpouring of congratulations on Twitter on his Chair appointment was customarily modest and collaborative. “Huge thanks,” he tweeted. “All success is a team effort, and I have a great team.”

In March 2021, Richard Whitlock was appointed Associate Chair, Research, for the Department of Surgery, McMaster University.
