PHRI is hiring a Head of Operations (HOO)!

The HOO is responsible for PHRI’s clinical research operations and for identifying and implementing innovative organizational approaches that optimize the development and implementation of its research mission. This entails establishing and maintaining a highly dynamic and flexible organization that is responsive to the evolving requirements of diverse research disciplines while meeting national and international regulatory requirements.

The Head of Operations establishes the PHRI organizational structure, policies and procedures  for  the conduct of high quality, impactful  and ethical research in >100 countries. They facilitate the implementation of all scientific and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • MBA with health/science related undergraduate degree.
  • 15 years’ experience with clinical research operations or equivalent.
  • 5 years of senior management experience.
  • Excellent understanding of business and clinical research operations, and complete understanding of the regulatory requirements for clinical research.
  • Flexibility and creativity with decision-making based on principles, intent and outcomes.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills to provide strong leadership to both direct reports and PHRI researchers and staff.
  • Excellent understanding of business and clinical research operations to manage a flexible organization
  • Excellent strategic insights to align operations with scientific objectives.
  • Highly developed influencing skills to negotiate diplomatically with scientists and physicians (most of whom are employees of McMaster or independent practitioners) and international lead collaborators.
  • Understanding of the regulatory requirements for clinical research. This includes both national and international regulations and,  cultural differences and challenges in working internationally.
  • Critical-thinking and being able to quickly course correct in a dynamic project-oriented, international environment of uncertainty (the very nature of research).
  • Flexibility and creativity with decision-making based on principles, intent and outcomes – as opposed to rules-based decision making.
  • Understanding of specialized areas of Information Technology, Contract Negotiations, and Financial management to effectively respond to the organizations changing needs.
  • Excellent understanding of research and academic cultures and the ability to complete projects while respecting the culture and history of PHRI.

This is a Hamilton Health Sciences temporary (1 year) full-time posting: 37.5 hours/week Monday through Friday, based in Hamilton, Ontario.
