The trial will evaluate the effect of  treatment with thiazolidineiones (TZD) on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and is expected to be the definitive trial regarding the role of TZDs in the prevention of cardiovascular events in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Study Design: Treatment, Randomized, Open Label, Parallel Assignment

Intervention: Rosiglitazone; piogliazone; placebo vs. factorial; vitmain D vs. placebo

Length of Study: 6.5 years

# of Patients: 16,000

Patient Population: People with type 2 diabetes at risk for cardiovascular disease.
